Annual Dinner and Golf Outing report for 2012.

This years event was held again at Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Resort on Friday the 7th Sept. Under the stewardship of this year’s President Dr. Seamus O’Flynn, the day started with the annual golf outing where 35 golfers took to the course. The competition was won by Val Goodwin (1967) with an excellent score of 40 pts, a record on this course and was closely followed in second place by Ciaran Smyth and Michael D. Lynch, who was rewarded for travelling all the way from the United States for the event.

Incorporated into this year’s event was the 45th  reunion of the class of 1967. Started by the class of 1965 some years ago this joint event ensures additional support where 65 past pupils in total sat down for dinner. A huge vote of thanks should go to Seamus Dennison, Brian O’Connell and our President Seamus for ensuring an excellent turn out from their class. It was also pleasing to see both the captain of the school in 1967 Owen St. Trainor and the vice captain Liam Egan support the event.

We would also like to extend our thanks and appreciation to Fr Joe Brennan ( Gonzaga ) who was the Jesuit guest for the evening and who also hasn’t missed an event for as long as we can remember. His presence at our events is much appreciated and long may it continue.

The annual AGM was held before dinner where an update was given by Roger Fitzgerald on the new web site design. There was a lengthy discussion around the cost of this revamp and it was agreed that the bulk of the funds required would be met from voluntary contributions. An incredible achievement made by Roger and the team, was sourcing and obtaining all the annuals dating back to 1896 and all of which have now been scanned onto the site. The Union would like to convey their thanks and appreciation to all involved including our webmaster for the work and time given to enhance our web pages.

The Union welcomed Charlie Reardon from Cork as the new President for 2013 which was richly deserved given his tremendous support down through the years.

The day was again a resounding success and we would like to thank all who supported the event. Next years event is under discussion and will be advised in early course.

The Council.
