Mungret College Annual Dinner and Golf Report 2017

Our outing on the 8th Sept 2017 was once again very well attended. The event started off with the golf competition in Castletroy GC and it was very pleasing to see our past president Michael Lynch come out on top having been the bridesmaid for a number of years prior. His magnificent score of 41 pts could not be matched. Second place went to Garrett Barry winner in 2016 who made a valiant attempt to defend his crown. Third was filled by Willie Moore with fourth place going to Brian Nash.

The AGM was held back in the Castletroy Park Hotel our new home and was also very well attended. We had a short presentation from Liam O’Mahony the principal of the new Mungret Community College.  The new college is very keen to continue with the traditions and values of the old Mungret College and this was exemplified by an agreement to design a new flag to be flown outside the new school which incorporates both the colours and crest of both colleges. It is proposed to have this completed by the start of the new school term in Sept 2018.

The dinner followed in the McLaughlin’s Restaurant where 68 past pupils were in attendance. The dinner was held in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the class of 1967 and it was very heartening to see in excess of 25 pupils from that year attend. Congrats should go to Seamus Dennison and John O’Connell for the trojan work they undertook where we are told that everyone in the class was contacted. A small presentation was given by the class to Seamus Dennison of an All Black jersey.

The festivities continued well into the early hours and an excellent day was enjoyed by all.

Details on our function for 2018 will be emailed and posted shortly.

We look forward again to a big turnout where the class of 1968 will be celebrating their own 50th anniversary.
