Mungret College Annual Golf and Dinner Outing 2015 Report
This year’s annual golf and dinner took place once again at the excellent Adare Manor Golf and Country Club in Limerick on Friday the 4th Sept. Under the able guidance of our president Ciaran Smyth and the council, the event started with the annual golf competition and were delighted to report a full time sheet with 36 golfers participating.
Under the supervision of both Victor Ryan and John Power the competition went off without a hitch with the winner Eddie Cogan returning an excellent score of 36pts to top the day and take home the coveted Fr. Senan Timoney S.J. trophy. He was closely followed in second place by Willie Nash on the same score with Michael Lynch making the trip over from America worth his while in coming in third. The prizes were presented by our outgoing president Ciaran Smyth at the dinner.
The A.G.M. was later well attended and Michael Lynch, that loyal overseas supporter, was unanimously elected incoming president for the year 2016.
The dinner which was held later in the evening was also well attended with 65 past pupils present. Whilst not in the same league as the previous year’s anniversary event, this turn out was exceptional and it goes to prove that there is a very good appetite amongst us to continue with the event albeit our membership is not getting any younger. We also got great support from our sister colleges and once again the council are very appreciative for the continued support of pupils which makes this annual event a must in our dairy each year.
It is with regret that Adare Manor, which has been our home now for over 10 years, will be closed for course renovations in 2016. The council are at present looking for an alternative and suitable venue for next year which we hope to run on the first Friday in Sept. We will post a definitive date and venue shortly and would ask you to watch for these updates on the web site.
We would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to the management and staff at Adare Manor especially Orla McDonnell who has looked after us so well over the years and we hope to renew acquaintances again in 2017 at the venue. Special thanks also to Timmy Geary whose connection with Adare has ensured that we are well looked after.
Finally, Mungret College is open daily to visitors and have just launched a fine restaurant which serves 6 days per week. All are welcome to visit and Willie Sheehan and his team would look forward to meeting and greeting you.
