Mungret College Golf & Annual Dinner 2006

Our golf and annual dinner was held at Adare Golf & Country Club on Friday the 19th of May. Despite several withdrawals by members travelling to the Heineken Cup final in Cardiff, a fair attendance, in excess of 30 past pupils kept the flag flying.

The annual dinner was preceded by a highly competitive golf round in deplorable conditions for the best part, on what is possibly the best parkland golf course on these isles. The competition was won with 35pts by Martin Curran who piped Niall Brennan from Ballina on the back nine. The long drive was won by Karl Roche and the nearest the pin by Victor Ryan. The prizes were presented by our outgoing President Con Noonan.

The A.G.M. was held in the clubhouse and the Secretary’s report was read by Brian O’Flynn standing in for Paul Kerrigan. Our Treasurer, Stewart Roche, reported a very solvent position going forward. Our new President is Billy Moloney and he took over the chain of office for the 2006/07 year.

Our appreciation and thanks must go to Timmy Geary member of Adare Golf & Country Club for organising the golf and the catering at very reasonable prices. The venue proved popular and we have undertaken to go back there again in the near future when hopefully the sun will shine. We would like to thank also Fr. Joe Brennan who travelled long distance to be with us. Fr. Timoney who hadn’t missed this event for as long as we can remember offered his apologies due to a prior commitment as did our other great supporter Fr. Michael Shiel. We hope to see them all again in 2007.

The after dinner festivities were carried on into the early hours back at the Woodlands Hotel and everyone present had a most enjoyable weekend. Next years venue has yet to be decided so watch this space for further updates. A reminder to members to please provide their e-mail address. Please follow the instructions on the web.
